CHED cancels nursing programs of 8 colleges

MANILA - The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) ordered the cancellation of the nursing program of 8 private colleges in northern Mindanao.


The following institutions are not allowed to accept students in its nursing program:


Blessed Mother College in Cagayan de Oro City

Lyceum of Iligan Foundation

St. Michael's College in Iligan City

Medina College in Ozamiz City

La Salle University in Ozamiz City

North Central Mindanao College in Lanao del Norte

Lanao School of Science and Technology

Camiguin Polytechnic State College


According to CHED Region 10 Director Zenaida Gersana, these colleges failed to follow the order stating that all instructors should have a Master's Degree.


These school also lack required facilities such as laboratories and libraries.


Gersana added that these schools also showed poor performance in the Nurse Licensure Examination.

The  Local Government Unit of Ozamiz  has  started the demolition activity  of  all illegal structures erected by any individual or company  within the prescribed  width of  water  ways  of the City’s  creeks and rivers, to give way  the P300-M  Urban Drainage  project.
This  P300-M Urban Drainage Project  is being prioritized by the administration of President Benigno Aquino 111 to address  the flooding problem of the City.
The demolition of illegal structures within the  creek  was  made  right after  holding the ground breaking ceremony  of the urban drainage project  on January  24, 2014  during the birthday  celebration of Ozamiz City Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog Sr.,
Mayor Parojinog, Vice-Mayor Nova  Princess Parojinog-Echavez , congressman Henry Oaminal of the second district  of Misamis Occidental  led the employees of THE City Hall of Ozamiz and the technical men of DPWH  second  Engineering District Office of Misamis Occidental.
Barangay officials from barangay Maningcol, Gango, Bacolod, Aguada and Carmen had also attended the groundbreaking ceremony.
The  demolition order was executed by the City Engineers Office  45 days after  serving the final notice to all affected households and establishments.
There are  398 encroachments  identified by the  City Engineers Office including households and business  establishments.
The national government has already made  the initial  released of   P 100-M  for  the phase-1 project implementations  to be accomplished this year. (City Information Center)
As an emerging tourist destination, the City Tourism Office is now exploring the potential  attractions for  both  domestic and foreign visitors to be enticed to come and visit Ozamiz City.
Mayor Reynaldo O. Parojinog Sr. has ordered  Mr. Jaime Tomada  Local Government  Department head-1 who is now  working  on the program  for the tourism  to promote  the newly discovered waterfalls (Cobra)   at  Sitio Tipan, Barangay  Stimson Abordo.
This waterfalls  should be part of the tourists  destination in  barangay Stimson Abordo  which includes  river trekking and  mountain climbing.
Mr. Tomada is now preparing  the necessary project proposal for the development of   Cobra Falls.
